Emergency Ultrasound Onsite Programs
Emergency Ultrasound has been a core program offered by Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute since 1995. Under the direction of its Medical Director, James Mateer, MD, RDMS, Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute designed the Emergency Medicine programs in accordance with ACEP guidelines. To date, Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute has had more than 1,500 Emergency Medicine physicians attend its programs.
| A key differentiating factor between Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute and other programs is the amount of hands-on instruction provided. Scanning is a critical component of the learning process.
Hence, the 3-to-1 participant to instructor ratio maximizes the return on the participants' investment. |
The length of the programs and topics of discussion may be modified to best meet the participants' educational objectives.
All courses structured in accordance with ACEP guidelines. • Two-day Introduction to Emergency Ultrasound Programs
• One-day Advanced Emergency Ultrasound Programs
• One-day Trauma Ultrasound Programs
Two-day Introduction to Emergency Ultrasound Programs
Objectives
At the completion of the program the participant should be able to:
- Discuss the basic fundamentals of ultrasound physics/instrumentation and describe image artifacts
- Explain the operation of the ultrasound system controls and appropriate transducer selection for different applications
- Perform ultrasound evaluation of the trauma patient (FAST exam)
- Perform the scan protocols for focused evaluation of the abdomen (including Aorta) and female pelvis
- Identify normal/abnormal image characteristics of the abdomen (including Aorta), female pelvis, first trimester OB, and ectopic pregnancy
- Describe image orientation, transducer preparation, scan protocols for performing an endovaginal GYN exam
- Describe image orientation, transducer preparation, and scan protocols for performing ultrasound guided vascular access
- Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting under supervised conditions until an accepted level of proficiency has been achieved
Topics
- Basic physics/instrumentation & image artifacts
- F.A.S.T. examination
- Ultrasound-Guided Vascular Access
- Abdominal scan protocols
- Abdominal vasculature
- Normal/abnormal imaging characteristics of the abdomen
- Diagnostic criteria for gallbladder disease
- Aortic aneurysm/dissection
- Renal pathology
- Sonographic evaluation of the female pelvis and early gestation
- Ectopic pregnancy/abortion
- PID/Masses
- Trauma in pregnancy
- Case studies
- Hands-on sessions
