| The 4-chamber view of the heart entails more than just counting to 4. This lecture will give details on how to look for additional clues to congenital heart anomalies by looking deeper into the 4-chamber view. The participant will learn about normal chamber sizes, normal ventricular wall thicknesses and contractility. The normal cardiac size, axis and position in the thorax will be discussed. The cardiac septi and the movement of the fossa ovalis flap will be described. The participant will also learn how to move from the 4-chamber view into the outflow tract views,and great vessels. This lecture will help to de-mystify the fetal heart in an easy and systematic way.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
• Define Congenital Heart Disease • List 10 important features to be routinely evaluated from the 4-chamber view • Demonstrate how to obtain the right and left ventricular outflow tract and the great vessels. | | Target Audience Sonographers and other medical professionals involved in performing OB-GYN ultrasound examinations; Physicians at an entry level of interpreting/performing OB-GYN exams. Physician participants may include (but are not limited to) those involved with: OB-GYN, endocrinologists involved in performing GYN and thyroid examinations, family practice, & emergency medicine.
