Upon completion of the event the participant should be able to:
1. Confirm placement of an endotracheal tube
2. Identify a pneumothorax or hemothorax
3. Determine the deepest pocket of fluid to facilitate the drainage of a pleural effusion
4. Look for evidence of pericardial tamponade and describe the steps required to perform a pericardiocentesis
5. Determine the deepest pocket of fluid to facilitate performing a paracentesis
6. Mark the location for needle insertion prior to performing a lumbar puncture
7. Explain how to locate and evaluate a joint effusion for aspiration
8. Determine the deepest pocket of fluid to facilitate the drainage of an abscess
9. Increase knowledge and confidence to begin integrating the skills learned into clinical practice under supervised conditions
Target Audience
Physicians, physician assistants, sonographers, and other medical professionals who have a desire to perform ultrasound-guided procedures in an emergency medicine or critical-care setting. Physician participants may include (but are not limited to) those whose specialty includes Emergency Medicine, CCU, Internal Medicine, Trauma, and Intensivists
